Ironically Surgeon was one of those DJs who aped Jeff Mills 3 deck style and made monotonous shades of grey - at least on the occasion I heard him play back in the 90s

Yes, there's no doubt that he started off in that tradition, but his sets from 2002 onwards mutated and grew substantially in texture and genres.
